A Dart is made up of four components; The point, barrel, shaft and a flight. Each part of the dart has a specific function and plays a key role in creating the perfect customised dart for the player.
The point of the dart comes in two different materials; Soft tip (plastic) or Steel tip (steel). Both types of points are functional on a bristle dartboard but preferred type of point for most players is steel tip darts. The barrel of the dart comes in many styles, materials and grips. The barrel is the main component of the dart that makes the weight of the dart. Most popular barrel materials are brass, nickel silver and tungsten. Brass is the least expensive material and can be used for the recreational player or occasional pub game. Nickel silver is more durable than brass and is tarnish resistant. The best material is tungsten and the higher the tungsten the better the dart is for a thinner, smaller barrel with more weight. 3x denser than brass or nickel silver its most popular for being heavier in a small mass.
The shaft of a dart is similar to the barrel of the dart in terms of different varieties of materials available. Most popular shaft materials are aluminium, plastic, nylon and titanium. Shaft lengths effect the stability and throw of the darts through the air. Most darts players have their own personal preference. Choosing a dart shaft is dependent on how it feels and behaves for the dart player.
Dart Flights come in many shapes and textures, all are accustomed to make changes to the feel of the dart through the air and the outcome of the dart when it reaches its target.
